Nathanial Schmidt is a fine art film photographer from Milwaukee, WI, USA. His work mostly centers around the banality and isolation of modern life.
“I see photography as a way of meditation and much of my personal work stems from the long walks I take alone around the areas I am in. Exploration has always been a deep love of mine and photography really started for me as a way to bring some of what I find back, and to share the moments of beauty, loneliness, absurdity, or tranquility I experienced. The fast paced nature of digital photography quickly began to hinder those experiences for me, so now nearly all of my work is done on film.”
Leisure Time
“Leisure Time” is based on the Guy Dobard quote, “work is only justified by leisure time. To admit the emptiness of leisure time is to admit the impossibility of life,” and focuses on alienation in a society in which our highest aspirations are often reduced to Pinterest boards and advertisements and when even doing what you love becomes an unending commodification of your life, where every minute is less of a genuine moment and more of a branding opportunity.
