Ana Michelena (1988) is an architect, Jelle Sluyts (1983) a photographer. Both were born in Belgium. After working each in their own discipline for a few years, they decided to start making documentaries together. They now travel the world, looking for interesting stories to tell.
Michelena and Sluyts like to make photographical essays. Rather than having each picture deliver the message, it’s the sequence of images that creates the narrative. They never strive for a series that is objective or complete, the story is always subjective and open to interpretation.
HOPES & DREAMS: EL RIO TAJO
In 2017, we followed the river Tagus from the source until the Portuguese border. El Rio Tajo is the longest river on the Iberian peninsula and crosses inland Spain from east to west, thereby passing some of the most remote areas of Spain. Observing, capturing the life alongside the river gave us an intimate insight into the country and the life of its inhabitants, a few years after the Great Spanish Depression.
