The Indian Army Recruitment Project
“I was commissioned by Grey Worldwide to create images that are to be used for the Indian Army Recruitment Campaign for the year 2015. We shot over 40 days in two schedules. Shooting across encampments in Deolali, Ahmednagar, Mhow, Agra, Ladakh – Leh and Siachen. We also shot at the National Defence Academy in Pune, and the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.
This project tested my endurance as we went from extreme heat to intense cold and higher altitudes. At the same time, it gave us a glimpse of the life our Army leads. Away from their families, enduring difficult conditions and finding the necessary fuel in their heroic pursuit of serving our motherland. It is a hard life that changes them. But deep down they are no different from us. They are human. Trying to belong. Trying to find purpose and their inner fire. I wanted to show them as heroic and human. The environment and the atmosphere also helped in giving it a meditative feel and a touch of magic realism which I love to incorporate in my projects.”
