Jean-Pierre Attal’s work is focused on the representation of contemporary urban society. He deciphers its multiple facets and it’s paradoxes, exploring the codes and the mechanisms that underlie the City.
His photographic research resembles a sociological investigation. First like an anthropologist, he collects primary data on the ground, and then using a concise visual language, he crystallizes a snapshot of the supercharged metropolis.
The different chapters of his work find their coherence in the variety of conceptual perspectives, a personal kaleidoscope reaching from surrealism to images that are highly rooted in reality. His work has been exhibited in the major international Contemporary Art Fairs, and has been acquired by private foundations and public collections.

“My photography, developed in numbered series, is an effort to represent the multi-facetted aspects of urban society. Underlined by a sociological approach, my photographs attempt to decipher the profusion of the megalopolis’ realities, uncovering multiple facets and paradoxes that underpin the city.
Most of my production is in the form of large-format photographic frescos.”

Alvéoles

This series extends and enriches my work of social urban archaeology.
Through the paned windows of modern offices I explore the ecosystem of the services industry and its players. Tightly linked to contemporary architecture they seem to be at home in each of the boxes designed by the tower.
A neutral and objective approach allows me to closely observe the stacks of floors saturated with employees. The images show the office furniture and equipment, the interior design, the dress codes, but especially the attitude and posture of the people who occupy these buildings dedicated to work.
Observed from the outside, these open spaces are totally accessible and reveal a standardized universe, a singular vision of reality.
« Cells », icons of a type of population and it’s epoch.
