Demetrio Giacomelli (b. 1986, Genoa) graduated in Painting at all’Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti in Genoa. After his BA studies, he moved to Milan where he began working as an assistant director for Paolo Caredda in the documentaries “Gli italiani e il comics ” and “Fino all’estremo” produced by Sky Arte. In 2014, he founded Progetto Aves, a group of artistic research on the relationship between citizen and animal, with two other artists Matteo Gatti and Matteo Signorelli. With Progetto Aves he has participated in various international art events (Biennale di architecture, Venice; CCCB, Barcelona; Careof, Milan). In 2015, the video “Km / 18” created by Progetto Aves won the Tent Academy Awards in Rotterdam. He participated in two editions of the Pesaro Film Festival presenting the film “Mal d’Archivio” in 2016 e the film “Il Secondino Innamorato” in 2017. In 2017, he made the documentary “Diorama” produced by ControraFilm and presented at Torino Film Festival where he won the Best Italian Documentary award.
In 2017, he produced the sci-fi movie “The Extinction Makes Free” which won the first prize in the Perspectives section of the Milan Filmmaker Festival.
