Castelnuovo Fotografia, applauded by critics and audience alike and now in it’s fifth iteration, is set inside Castello Colonna, a Renaissance castle in Castelnuovo di Porto, along Via Flaminia, a small medieval burg near Rome, immersed in the beautiful roman countryside. Directed by Elisabetta Portoghese and sponsored by Associazione Dieciquindici, with help from the Comune di Castelnuovo di Porto and with patronage from the Architects’ Order, who are landscape planners of Roma Capitale and of Ente Regionale Parco di Veio. Castelnuovo Fotografia has won over an ample and interest audience through the years, both by keeping it’s independent spirit and by promoting high-quality projects through giving room to Young amateurs and independent publishers alongside well-known names in the photography scene.

The Photography Days, from September 30th to October 8th, have as their objectives ample analysis and reflection on the transformation and characteristics of the urban and natural scenery today, through the lens of master photographers and young amateurs, and the merging of the landscape with it’s more intimate reflections.
While last year had shown us how the Landscape could merge with the Mindscape, this year through the keywords Landscape – Portrait is focussing on exploration of the landscape along it’s existential dimension in his natural and urban forms, through the juxtaposition of horizontal Landscapes and vertical Portraits typical of the smartphones’ views, the new universal standard for visual communications.
The two themes have as their common thread the temporal exploration of the land, from both the physical films of old photographers to new digital medium that have no material space.

This starts an informal voyage inside and about the landscape that has various noteworthy highlights in many differents fields: architecture, personal stories and how they interact with the scenery, the relationship between history, memories and personal ambitions. Somewhere between objectivity and subjectivity, through the
landscapes’ impartial characteristics and the personal perceptions, merged into the art of photography.

In the three days of the festival there are scheduled many events: shows, portfolio analysis, laboratories, meetings, performances, video projections and official presentations.
